Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings
Twice a year dental checkups and teeth cleanings help patients establish a solid foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Kids should visit our practice after their first teeth appear so we can evaluate their dental development, and patients of all ages should attend regular checkups by the age of five. The American Dental Association has determined that regular preventive checkups are effective in preventing most major oral health concerns and allow our team to diagnose and treat minor problems in their earliest stages. This is significant for patients because early diagnosis allows us to offer conservative treatment options that preserve natural dental structures and save patients time and money compared with more advanced dental treatment.
Each checkup includes a visual examination, thorough teeth cleaning, and a face to face consultation that allows our dentist to work with patients in developing a plan for ongoing care. At least once a year, our team collects X-rays that allow us to view the underlying structures of teeth and existing restorations to look for signs of wear or damage. During every checkup, our team screens for common health concerns as well, including tooth decay, gum disease, bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching), temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), and oral cancer.
Our skilled hygienists work with patients to thoroughly clean even the hardest to access parts of teeth. We’re also happy to answer patients’ questions, offer education about best practices in at-home dental care, and make product recommendations to improve daily oral hygiene routines.
