Tooth-Colored Fillings: Strengthen Your Smile
Amalgam fillings have been the standard in dental care for decades. These fillings offer adequate restoration of dental form and structure, but their dark, metallic coloring creates unnecessary cosmetic flaws in patients’ smiles. Today, more and more dentists are beginning to raise the standard in restoring decayed or damaged smiles with composite resin fillings. Made from a silicon dioxide and plastic composite, these fillings can be precisely shaded to exactly match patients’ natural dental color. In addition to a more appealing cosmetic appearance, composite resin fillings offer a number of oral health advantages, including:
- Like natural tooth enamel, composite resin does not expand and contract with changes in temperature, reducing the risk for further damage.
- Fillings are directly bonded to prepared teeth. This means there is no layer of material between the tooth and restoration, which may break down over time and allow bacteria to infiltrate the space between the filling, leading to additional decay.
- Composite fillings can be quickly placed in a single visit.
- Tooth colored composite resin material can be used to correct cracks and chips in smiles and to conceal cosmetic flaws like staining or gaps between teeth.
Dr. Merrill A. Grant and his dedicated dental team are able to fully restore decayed or damaged teeth during a single visit. With little to no dental structure removal required, we place and shape the malleable resin material directly onto the prepared tooth. Then, a curing light is used to harden the restoration into position.
